Nuggets Defeat Lakers in Season Opener
Denver Takes 1-0 Lead in Western Conference Finals
The Denver Nuggets pulled off an upset against the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in the opening night of the 2023-24 season. The Nuggets defeated the Lakers 114-103, with Nikola Jokic leading the way with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. Jamal Murray added 22 points and 6 assists for Denver.
The Lakers were led by Anthony Davis' 28 points and 11 rebounds. LeBron James added 22 points and 7 assists, but he also had 7 turnovers.
The Nuggets took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 32-18. Jokic was dominant in the quarter, scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.
The Lakers fought back in the fourth quarter, but they couldn't overcome the Nuggets' lead. James hit a three-pointer with 2:09 remaining to cut the Nuggets' lead to 106-101, but that was as close as they would get.
The Nuggets' win gives them a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals. The two teams will play Game 2 in Denver on Monday night.
